Podiatry
Podiatry is the analysis, diagnosis and treatment of foot disorders.
A podiatry assessment at Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic involves the assessment of how your feet and lower limb work. The assessment focuses on the movement of the joints in the foot, foot posture and how this can affect the lower limb, including the knee and hip.
Conditions assessed often include:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Heel Pain
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Arthritis
- Forefoot pain
- Knee pain
- Tendon, Muscle and ligament overuse injuries
- Hip and back pain

Following the assessment, you may be given advice regarding stretching and strengthening, footwear and targeted treatment. Often we will prescribe you foot orthoses (insoles) as a temporary or long term treatment.
There are many varieties of foot orthoses available, from preformed, customised, semi-bespoke, bespoke and carbon fibre orthoses. The most suitable orthoses for your individual needs can be discussed with the podiatrist following your assessment. These will be dependent on your biomechanics, your hobbies and activities and your footwear.
